International Day of The Girl Child

In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl child on the 11th of October, 2022, the conference hall of The Nest Innovation Hub, Yaba was enlivened and electrified by girls from selected secondary schools across Yaba environs, Lagos state.

Sanitary Aid for Nigerian Girls, in partnership with LADEG and with support from The Nest Innovation Hub and MentorMe Nigeria hosted, educated and motivated these 100 young women on this joyous day; as they celebrated with girls all around the world.

Karo Omu, founder, Sanitary Aid for Nigerian Girls in her address empowered these young ladies to their capabilities in changing the world positively. She reminded them that they can be whoever they want to be and so much more. Karo was quick to expound that while failure might be inevitable; they shouldn’t be discouraged in their ambitions.

The girls were selected from Lagos City Senior College School, Aje Comprehensive Senior High School, Herbert Macaulay Girls Senior High School, and Birrel Avenue Senior High School were also educated on the importance of menstrual hygiene and period poverty by Tolani Thomas, CEO of Halisi Consult. They were also enlightened on the sensitive topic of sex education by Ethel Alagbada, Head of Operations of The Nest Innovation Hub.

These future phrenologists, pediatricians, surgeons, lawyers, musicians, chartered accountants, actresses, and many more were enthralled with the career education given by Oluwaseun Muraina, Research Analyst and Lecturer at the University of Lagos, Nigeria.

Diva Pads, through Sanitary Aid for Nigerian Girls distributed free sanitary pads to the students, putting smiles on their faces; as evident in the dancing and cheers which ensued soon after.

Indeed, with the empowerment given to these girls. today, this writer envisions an impressive improvement on these young ladies’ health and future career; which bodes well for the benefit of their communities and the world at large.
